Since our inception, The Jilan Center has been guided by an esteemed Advisory Committee committed to advancing our mission through the lens of our "4" Cores of Healing Justice: Sexual Wellness, Racial Healing, Recovery, and Community Power-Building. In collaboration with the Executive Leadership, the Advisory Committee provides critical insight and guidance to shape the strategic direction of our initiatives, ensuring our work drives transformative change. We are honored to entrust this role to dynamic, experienced leaders from diverse professional and lived experiences, united in their dedication to fostering equitable and empowered communities.

Advisory Committee Member Role and Expectations at The Jilan Center

The Jilan Center focuses on advancing healing justice through its "4 Cores": Sexual Wellness, Racial Healing, Recovery, and Community Power-Building. Advisory Committee members play a critical role in supporting this mission by leveraging their lived experiences, expertise, and insights to guide strategic initiatives, ensure accountability, and amplify the Center’s impact.

Responsibilities

  1. Provide Strategic Advice: Offer informed counsel to align the Center’s work with its mission, emphasizing healing justice principles.
  2. Review Proposals: Evaluate initiatives, policies, and strategies for effectiveness, equity, and sustainability.
  3. Monitor Projects: Track the progress of programs across the "4 Cores" and support hiring and oversight of project leaders to ensure outcomes align with the Center’s values.
  4. Advocate for Stakeholders: Represent and prioritize the needs of key stakeholders, including historically excluded communities, grassroots organizations, and co-conspirator partners.
  5. Promote the Mission: Elevate the Center’s profile by championing its initiatives and advocating for healing justice in diverse forums.
  6. Facilitate Decision-Making: Provide actionable insights to guide the decisions of the executive leadership and governing bodies.
  7. Cultivate Relationships: Foster connections with community members, collaborators, and policymakers to integrate their voices and concerns into the Center’s work.

  • Liberation & Justice Mindset: Support the liberation and justice of communities historically excluded and coercively displaced.
